Fundraiser Updates

The Quinte Isle Bluegrass festival was a great success. The silent auction raised $2,000 for the LHS! Congratulations to those who won and thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered and attended!

Fill the Truck -- May 2016

Thanks again to Christopher for hosting another Fill the Truck event in Trenton! He raised approximately 300lbs of dry cat food, 200 cans of wet cat food and plenty of litter, cleaners, treats and toys! We also received pop cans and LCBO returns as well as $650 cash. Thank you to everyone who donated!

Katnip Tea - June 26, 2016

The second annual Katnip Tea, a benefit concert and auction for the Loyalist Humane Society, was held on Sunday, June 26 at the Bloomfield United Church. 

Headlining this popular event were tenor Julian Gallo (Wally Williamson), vocalist Lenni Stewart, flautist Colleen Galway, and accompanist Tom Dietzel. 

The live auction was conducted by Adam Miller of County Traders. A silent auction also took place. 

Adam Miller is seen with Anne Moffatt, the shelter manager, auctioning the rights to the names of the 3 kittens. 

This year’s Katnip Tea was dedicated to the memory of Zeke, a very special cat who, sadly, crossed the Rainbow Bridge recently. Katnip Tea raised an impressive 3,500 this year! Thank you!

May 2016 Update

Do you hate having to take back your liquor bottles and cans? If so, David of "Many Happy Returns" would love to take them off your hands! He is a very generous young man who collects LCBO and Beer Store returns for charity. Every time he reaches $100 he gives a cheque to a charity of his choice. As you can see, the LHS was lucky enough to be his charity pick at the end of April. If you're interested in using David's services, please check out his Facebook page here

REMINEDER! Quinte Bluegrass: Sweet Music for Loyalist Humane Society Cats.

From May 27-29, 2016, Quinte’s Isle Campark will echo to the melody of all-Canadian Bluegrass music as bands from near and far come together in their eight annual celebration. The event will feature popular groups such as Dusty Drifters, Shine, Switchback Rd, Concession 23, Sweetgrass, and County Rd 44 among others. This family-friendly event has grown in popularity from year to year, with more and more campers and other visitors coming to sample County hospitality.
This year again, the Quinte’s Isle Bluegrass Celebration has chosen to donate the proceeds from their popular May 28 silent auction to the Loyalist Humane Society. The Loyalist Humane Society (LHS) is a non-profit charitable organization located in Prince Edward County, on County Road 4 west of Picton. The LHS provides care for animals without homes. While their ultimate goal is to find each pet a new and loving Forever Home, they are a no-kill shelter with a big enough heart to keep un-adopted pets in a loving environment over their lifetimes. The LHS receives no government funding and relies solely on its valued volunteers, generous community support, and the kindness of organizations such as the Quinte’s Isle Bluegrass Celebration.

We hope all music-lovers will come out to enjoy the Celebration, welcome the musicians and their out-of-town fans, and support the silent auction. LHS cats love mewsic!

UPCOMING EVENT - MAY 28

The 4H Small Animal Club is holding a bake sale and having a petting zoo May 28th from 10am - noon. It is being held at the County Farm Centre on Cold Storage Road in Picton. Proceeds from the event are going to the LHS and Black Jack Rabbit Rescue. We will have some available kittens there too!

NEW APRIL 25

The Quinte Isle Bluegrass Festival is back for 2016! May 27th-29th, we invite you to attend the Bluegrass festival at Quinte Isle Campground. There is a silent auction on May 28th with proceeds going to the LHS. Hope to see you there!

And even though it's a bit early to announce - our annual garage sale will be the August long weekend. More details to come!

March Update

As spring approaches, we would like to take this time to remind everyone to spay and neuter their pets! Once the warmer weather comes, so do the litters of kittens.

As well, we'd like to say a quick thank you to 8 year old Seth (pictured below) who - for the SECOND time - used his birthday as an opportunity to collect donations for the shelter. Thanks to Seth and his family & friends for their generosity!

UPCOMING EVENT

Time for spring cleaning! Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI) is holding an e-waste day on April 23rd. Bring your e-waste to 41 Barker Street in Picton to dispose of it properly. Proceeds go to the LHS. Hope to see you there!

***NEW MARCH 15, 2016***

We want to extend a great big thank you to Grace and Taylor (pictured) for donating $120 to the LHS this spring.

These young ladies sold hot chocolate to raise the funds but this isn't the first time they've donated - they have also sold lemonade and went caroling at Christmas to raise money! Grace and Taylor (both 10 years old) are both members of the AAC animal awareness club in Ottawa and we are very appreciative that they selected us as their charity to donate to! Thank you to Grace, Taylor and their family and friends for supporting us.

Wow! The generosity of the youth in our community is outstanding. We'd like to extend thanks to 8-year-old Jake who used his birthday to help raise money and donated goods for the LHS. Thanks to Jake, his family and friends for thinking of us and being so generous!

December News

In lieu of birthday gifts, Austin (left) asked his friends to donate food. He was able to collect 70lbs worth of food for the shelter! Thanks Austin and Ethan for coming to drop off your donation - the cats will certainly enjoy it!

November 2015 News & Events

We would like to say a special thank you to the Prince Edward County Quilters Guild for making the beautiful quilts (pictured) that fit perfectly into our cat cages. They are so lovely and add a pop of colour to the shelter - the cats think they are comfy too!

UPCOMING EVENT
On December 19, Lorain Sine will be holding her annual Christmas concert at Wellington United Church. Tickets are $15 at the door and proceeds will go to the LHS. We hope to see you there!

PAST EVENT
Thank you to the volunteers and guests who attended the "Creative Cat Craft Sale" the weekend of November 21st. The sale raised $250 - thank you!

We have officially established the "Magnolia Fund" - now your donations can be specifically set aside for cats who need emergency surgery involving amputation. Pictured is Magnolia who lost her rear leg due to an injury. For more informtion on the fund, please visit our Donations page.

Fundraising Fall/Winter 2015

This fall we have had some absolutely wonderful donations from the local community. Above is TJ from Pet Valu Picton showing off the goods donated by customers - it's estimated to be about $4,000 worth of goods! Thank you so much to all who donated!

Below is a photo of Braxton who is a very generous six year old. Instead of gifts, Braxton collected goods to donate between not one but two humane societies (including us!) Thank you so much to Braxton and his friends who donated - we are very grateful!

October 2015 Updates

PECI is holding another e-waste day on Saturday, October 31st between 8:30am and 2pm. Come and drop off your old electronics, scrap metal and old tires with the proceeds going to the LHS.

Tag day was a very cold but very sucessful day - we were able to raise $1,900! Thank you to everyone who helped and donated.

Pictured above is "Magnolia" and she has unfortunately had to have her leg amputated after it was injured by an animal. With her rising vet bills, we are asking people to donate to the "Magnolia Fund" to help cover her unexpected costs. All donations - large and small - are welcome! A fresh new look!

Welcome to our new website! We hope that you enjoy the look and feel of our new site. We are also hoping that this site alleviates some of the technical frustrations associated with our last website. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let us know and we will do our best to incorporate your ideas.

At the shelter, we also have a brand new beautiful barn quilt on top of a freshly painted wall! Thanks so much to Dolores Wallace who painted the beautiful piece for us - we absolutely love it and we hope you all do too.
