Winter 2020/2021

CLOSED for the Holidays!

PXL_20201223_180833135.jpg

Please note that the LHS will be closed (including all adoptions) from December 24 to January 4. This gives our staff and volunteers a much needed break to get the shelter organized for the new year. Don't worry - the cats will still be taken care of! We ask that you please don't call until January 5 unless there is an emergency situation. As a reminder, if you need to report suspected animal abuse you can find the necessary information here:

https://www.ontario.ca/page/animal-welfare

(as we are not SPCA we do not have the authority to investigate so this is your best course of action)

Starting back January 5 we will re-open but will still be by appointment only.

We hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday all the best to you and your families

The Sine Sisters - Christmas Music Celebration - December 2020 - CD Label - JPEG.jpeg

This Christmas is a litte different for 2020 - normally we love Lorain Sine's Christmas concert with proceeds going to the LHS but with COVID-19 Lorain has decided to do something a little different and record a Christmas CD instead! If you're interested in purchasing "Sine Sisters and Friends sing Christmas songs" please call Lorain at 613-399-2055. All proceeds still going to the LHS. Thank you Lorain (and friends!) for your continued generosity

A Special Thank you to Boots’ Adopters!

One of our LHS adopted cats (now named Boots) has gone to a wonderful family who decided to sell homemade Chrsitmas ornaments with the proceeds going to the LHS. Your donation brought a smile to all of us and we’re so grateful for your generosity. Thank you!

And thank you all of you who supported us in 2020. It certainly was a strange year but we are very thankful for our community! All the best for 2021

IMG_8097.jpg

We are enourmously grateful to the Huffs for their generous grant of $15,000 - with the money we were able to renovate our main facility with a beautiful new red metal roof. We thank you for keeping our shelter cats warm and dry!

As we continue to navigate these strange times we just want to say a HUGE thank you to all of you who continue to support us. Whether you donate (money, empties, food, supplies - all of it!), volunteer, adopt or even just share our posts we are grateful for the support of our community.

We would like to send a special shout out to Shannon Wheeler (Mars Pet Care rep) who made and donated these amazing snuffle mats for our cats. They will love exploring and sleeping on these fun beds!

COVID-19 UPDATE

Effective May 29th we are “open” for adoptions - but that does not mean our facility is open to the public. Here are the steps we would appreciate being taken:
(1) Check our website for adoptable cats - we will do our best to keep this as up to date as possible. Please note we will not always post about litters of kittens - if you are specifically interested in a kitten, please call us.
(2) Make a list of cats you are interested in. Most “adoptable” cats will be posted but it’s also recommended you like some traits you are interested in (ex. calm/active, cuddly/independent, male/female, long/short hair, etc)
(3) When you are ready to adopt please call Anne at 613-847-3243 - based on your criteria she can advise if we have a cat available for you. At this point you will make an appointment with Anne to meet the cat(s). We will bring out a maximum of 2 cats for any appointment for the sake of time.
***WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING ANY NON-SCHEDULED DROP INS - Please understand this is for the safety of everyone at the shelter***
(4) On the day of your appointment, please call Anne to tell her you have arrived. She will bring out the cat(s) to a fenced run so you can meet with the cat(s) (weather permitting - please call in advance if the weather is very poor). Please bring your donation fee (cash or cheque) and a carrier if you plan to bring the cat home that day. Our adoption fees can be found here

We are also still accepting no-contact porch drop off donations (including empty LCBO/Beer Store returns!)

Thank you so much for your support during this unqiue time. We appreciate your understanding and support and hope we can still have a number of successful adoptions!

Spring 2020

Adoptions Suspended - COVID-19

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we have suspended adoptions as of April 21, 2020 and will remain closed to the public until further notice. We appreciate your patience and support as we all work to be safe and healthy through these times. Please know that our facilities are still being cared for and our cats are healthy and comfortable.

We are still accepting no-contact donations that can be left on the porch of the first building (with the orange roof). Currently we are in need of laundry detergent, Pine Sol (Lavender or Original), bleach, Fantastik spray cleaner, or scrubbie sponges with  a mesh cover. We will also gladly take donations of food (wet or dry) or monetary donations. As a reminder, you can donate online directly on our website by clicking this link
